Please join us for a panel titled “Empowering Students through Mindfulness: Simple Tools to Maximize Learning Outcomes with Writers” with Interim ESL Director Joseph Nosek, along with Lecturers Lidka Rao and Shauna Crowther from the ESL Program.  During the presentation, they will discuss their new pilot program, which involves integrating simple mindfulness exercises at the beginning of classes to help students manage stress and anxiety while enhancing their classroom engagement and academic performance. Furthermore, they are exploring how mindfulness can serve as a tool to help learners become more focused and self-reflective writers.

This project has been piloted with three distinct student groups: ESL, the TESOL Certificate, and English 100. Results from anonymous end-of-semester surveys indicate highly positive feedback from students who were exposed to the mindfulness techniques. The majority of students reported an enhanced learning experience in the classroom, and a significant number of them also began practicing these techniques outside of the classroom in their daily lives.
